HC Deb 13 May 1959 vol 605 c138W
30. Mr. Malcolm MacMillan

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation to what extent he has been consulted about the proposals to adapt Stornoway Airport for the purposes of a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation base; and if he will make a statement about the future of the airfield for civil aviation.

Mr. Hay

My right hon. Friend has agreed that Stornoway could be considered for development for use by NA.T.O. in war time, and I understand that a report based on a survey of the airfield is now being examined. If any development is carried out, the interests of civil aviation will be safeguarded.
