HC Deb 26 March 1959 vol 602 c178W
Mr. Malcolm MacMillan

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty what number and percentage of the personnel of the Royal Naval Reserve were recruited in the Western Isles in 1938, and in the last year for which figures are available.

Mr. Orr-Ewing

The figures are as follows:

Mr. McAdden

asked the Minister of Education how many new school places would have to be provided to reduce all classes in both junior and senior schools to a maximum of 30; and by how much this total would be increased if the leaving age were raised to 16.

Mr. Geoffrey Lloyd

To ensure that no class should have more than 30 pupils in 1965, about 1,400,000 primary school places would be required in addition to those likely to be provided under current policy. No additional secondary school places would be required if the school leaving age remained at 15: if it were raised to 16 in 1965, about 160.000 places would be required in addition to those likely to be provided under current policy.
