HC Deb 19 March 1959 vol 602 cc63-4W
79. Mr. Leavey

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department the present Regulations applying to the Metropolitan Police for the passing of information to the Press about suspected criminal offences, accidents, and other matters which come within the scope of police activities.

Mr. R. A. Butler

Under the Police Discipline Regulations it is an offence if a member of a police force without proper authority communicates to the Press any matter connected with the force. The grant of such authority to the Metropolitan Police is regulated by the Commissioner's orders. These orders are confidential.
