115. Mr. Gresham Cookeasked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation what further guidance he proposes to issue with regard to the establishment and operation of the urban road study groups; and whether he will add some guidance about the inclusion of architects and other professional advisers.
§ Mr. WatkinsonI have suggested to local authorities in certain major industrial areas that they study their highway needs over the next 20 years as is being done in London. This is a matter for them, and it would not be proper for me to dictate the make-up of their committees. I am always ready to do what I can to help, if approached on any aspect of their problems. I am sure that they realise, as I do, the importance of including architects and other professional advisers in these planning exercises, and I have no reason to believe that the architectural profession, in particular, will not be fully represented.
