110. Mr. Ernest Davies

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation what new appointments he has made to the British Transport Commission; to what extent it is proposed that the new members will continue to hold the executive positions they now occupy; and what remuneration each of them is to receive.

Mr. Watkinson

I have appointed Mr. Keith Grand, formerly General Manager of the Western Region of British Railways, to be a whole-time Member of the Commission from 16th February, to fill the vacancy created by the death of the late Mr. J. W. Watkins. I have also appointed Major-General G. N. Russell, al present the head of the British Road Services Division, to be a whole-time Member from 1st October next, to succeed Lord Rusholme who will retire on 30th September. The answer to the second part of the Question is "Not at all". These Members will each receive the standard salary for a whole-time Member of the Commission, £7,500 a year.
