HC Deb 03 February 1959 vol 599 c28W
44. Mr. Willis

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many times his powers under Section 44 of the Agriculture (Scotland) Act, 1948, have been used to protect the unenclosed lands and woodlands of occupiers of agricultural holdings against deer.

Mr. Maclay

These powers have never been used. They have been delegated to agricultural executive committees since 1950 and though committees have achieved a fair degree of co-operation, they have not found it practicable to use the compulsory powers.
