HC Deb 03 February 1959 vol 599 cc28-9W
51. Mr. Hannan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he has now considered the proposal made by the Glasgow Probation Committee that it should be a statutory duty laid on probation officers to attempt reconciliation in cases of separation coming before sheriff courts; and what is his decision.

Mr. Maclay

I have come to the conclusion. after undertaking consultations, that this proposal does not command a sufficient measure of acceptance in Scotland for legislation to be justified.
