HC Deb 02 February 1959 vol 599 c8W
69. Mr. Mason

asked the Minister of Supply what is now the Government's policy with regard to the aircraft industry, which is facing the loss of approximately 100,000 personnel.

Mr. Aubrey Jones

The industry's difficulties are due to a falling off in demand for its products. My policy is aimed at minimising this decline by promoting civil aeronautical development, e.g. by providing civil aeronautical research, continuing to assist certain development projects and encouraging the re-grouping of the industry into units of greater financial and technical strength which will be better able to capture a significant share of the world market.
