HC Deb 16 December 1959 vol 615 c156W
25. Mr. Parker

asked the Postmaster-General whether he is aware of the confusion caused by the fact that the Dagenham Borough and postal areas do not coincide; and whether he will assimilate them.

Miss Pike

The reason why the Dagenham postal address does not cover all parts of the Dagenham Borough is because postal addresses must have regard to economic delivery arrangements and the lay-out of postmen's rounds. The Dagenham Post Office is well sited to serve its area and the arbitrary division of roads between different offices which would follow assimilation of postal and borough boundaries, might lead to greater confusion. Special arrangements are made to minimise delays to letters wrongfully addressed. I think the present arrangements should be maintained.
