HC Deb 14 December 1959 vol 615 c99W
74. Mr. Janner

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will endeavour to ensure that, before the International Bank for Reconstruction and Developments grants any loans for the expansion of the Suez Canal, appropriate assurances will be given by Egypt that free transit will be accorded to shipping of all nations through the Canal in accordance with the requirements of international law.

Mr. Profumo

The views of Her Majesty's Government on the rights of all countries to free transit of the Canal have been frequently expressed in the United Nations and also made clear to the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
