§ 90. Sir E. Erringtonasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs whether his attention has been called to the recent closure and proposed demolition of the Grand Theatre, Southampton; what planning permission has been granted in respect of the site to be rendered vacant; and whether, in order to facilitate the retention of the theatre, he will revoke such planning permission.
§ Mr. BevinsI am informed that in May last the Southampton Corporation gave planning permission in outline for the erection of a block of shops on a site which includes the site of this theatre. While I sympathise with my hon. Friend's regret at the prospect of this theatre being demolished, I have no reason to suppose, on the information before me, that revocation of this planning permission would be justified.
