HC Deb 31 July 1958 vol 592 cc204-5W
Mr. McInnes

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he has now received the report on the local inquiry held two months ago into the question whether the Corporation of Glasgow has failed to comply with the statutory requirements about reviewing the rents of its houses; and what action he proposes to take.

Mr. Maclay

Yes. In his report the Dean of Faculty, who held the inquiry, expresses the view that the Corporation has failed to do what is required of them by Section 73(5) of the Housing (Scotland) Act, 1950.

I have sent a copy of the report to the Corporation saying that I accept this view but before taking further action under Section 356 of the Local Government (Scotland) Act, 1947, I am prepared to afford the Corporation an apportunity of reconsidering its position in the light of the report. I have asked the Corporation to inform me by 1st September what action it intends to take.

Copies of the report are available in the Vote Office.
