HC Deb 21 January 1958 vol 580 cc143-4W
76. Mr. Champion

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether his attention has been drawn to the Report of the Chief Registrar of Friendly Societies for 1956; and whether he will introduce legislation to stop the practice, referred to in the Report, of building societies in charging premiums when advances are made.

Mr. Amory

I have seen the Chief Registrar's Report on Building Societies for 1956. Legislation relating to the practice of building societies in charging premiums on mortgage advances is not contemplated.
