§ 63. Mr. J. B. Hyndasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer for what reasons gas-fired space-heating appliances, which are both smokeless and highly efficient, are subjected to a Purchase Tax of 60 per cent. as well as hire-purchase restrictions, whereas similar appliances burning oil, which must be imported, or coal, are not subject to these handicaps.
