HC Deb 11 February 1958 vol 582 c21W
48. Mr. J. Harrison

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs what recent progress has been made in devising an antidote to the pollution of the River Trent caused by synthetic detergents, in view of the dangers to navigation personnel employed on the canalised section of the river.

Mr. Bevins

The first Report of the Standing Technical Committee on Synthetic Detergents was published last week and I am sending the hon. Member a copy. This indicates that manufacturers are investigating the production of synthetic detergents of a kind which give less trouble at sewage works.
