HC Deb 04 February 1958 vol 581 cc164-5W
Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware that household goods sold in tins and packages do not always bear an intimation of the price, that this gives opportunity for variety in price demanded for the same kind of goods in different shops, and that this opens the door to fraud and injustice; and if he will now make a Regulation making it illegal to sell goods in tins or package without any intimation of the retail price at which such goods may be sold.

Mr. Erroll

Yes. My right hon. Friend has neither the power nor the inclination to prevent competition among retailers.
