HC Deb 02 December 1958 vol 596 c121W
119. Mr. Randall

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he will consider increasing the amount of the United Kingdom's contribution to the United Nations World Refugee Year, so as to bring it up to an amount equal to that subscribed by voluntary agencies in this country.

Mr. Profumo

Her Majesty's Government have always believed that the main effort in this country during the World Refugee Year should be made by the voluntary organisations. For our part, we have taken pains—and with some success—to enlist wide international support for the idea, and we have promised a substantial contribution. It is now for the voluntary organisations to play their part, and we shall, of course, support their efforts.
