HC Deb 21 April 1958 vol 586 cc54-5W
Captain Kerby

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty whether he is aware that during the converting of the "T" Class submarines into the "T" Conversion Class, the main armament of the submarines concerned has been reduced from eleven torpedo tubes to six; what are the reasons for this reduction in main armament; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. R. Allan

During the conversion of "T" Class submarines to fast battery drive, five of the torpedo tubes were removed and not replaced. These tubes, being external ones, were of limited value, and their removal permitted important improvements to be made in the overall efficiency of the submarines.
