78. Mr. E. L. Mallalieu

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Common wealth Relations what steps have been taken by Her Majesty's Government to provide financial or technical assistance for the Volta River project in Ghana.

79. Mr. Mason

asked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations if Her Majesty's Government have yet arrived at any decision for the financing of the Volta River project in Ghana; and if he will make a statement on the present position of this project.

Mr. Alport

The position of the United Kingdom Government in relation to the Volta River project remains as stated by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Colonies in a Written Answer on 27th July, 1956. Any final decision on the financing of the project on the basis of the 1952 White Paper is of course a matter for the aluminium companies as well as for the Ghana and United Kingdom Governments.
