HC Deb 12 November 1957 vol 577 c27W
43. Mr. E. Johnson

asked the Secretary to the Treasury the number of retired civil servants of the executive and administrative grades who are in receipt of pensions on account of their service; and how many of these retired before the outbreak of war on 3rd September, 1939.

Mr. Powell

I regret that this information could not be obtained without a disproportionate expenditure of time and labour.

Mr. Hornby

asked the Chancellor of Exchequer what would be the cost in the present financial year of allowing all unestablished service in the Civil Service between the years 1919 and 1949 to count in full for superannuation rights.

Mr. P. Thorneycroft

The cost in the rest of the present financial year would be about £2 million. In the first full year 1958–59, it would be about £5½ million.
