HC Deb 27 March 1957 vol 567 c111W
52. Mr. Moss

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation whether in view of recent accidents elsewhere, he is satisfied that adequate precautions exist for the safety of the local population at Elmdon Airport, near Birmingham; and what further precautions he has to recommend.

Mr. Watkinson

The approaches to Elmdon Airport are in line with the general recommendations of the International Civil Aviation Organisation. In addition my Department has reduced the notifiable length of one runway below what is actually available in order to reduce still further any risk to houses nearby. I am satisfied that adequate precautions are taken for the safety of the local population, but I am re-examining the criteria employed in general with other airports.
