§ 71. Mr. Grimondasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on the roads policy in Scotland; what total expenditure on trunk roads is planned for the current year; and what major improvements and new construction is planned.
§ Mr. MaclayThe Scottish road programme continues to be based upon the expanded road programme announced by my right hon. Friend the then Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation on 2nd February, 1955. The Roads, etc., Scotland Estimate for 1957–58 provides for the expenditure of £2,140,000 on the new construction and major improvement of trunk roads, an increase of nearly £1 million over the provision for 1956–57. During the current year further schemes estimated to cost £3,050,000 will be authorised.
