HC Deb 19 February 1957 vol 565 cc41-2W
Mr. Owen

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he is aware of the difficulties of the small cinemas where the maximum seating charge is 1s. 6d., of which 5½d. is tax; and, in view of the fact that these small cinemas are a vital factor in the social life of the rural and small industrial areas, if he will consider their plea for tax relief in his Budget.

Mr. P. Thorneycroft

I have received representations on behalf of small and other cinemas and am considering them in the course of my review of the Entertainment Duty, but I cannot anticipate my Budget Statement.
