HC Deb 11 February 1957 vol 564 c111W
68. Mr. Parkin

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, in view of the loans which the United Kingdom has made for public works in Jordan, what steps Her Majesty's Government are now taking to bring about agreement between that country and her neighbours on a joint construction programme to facilitate the common use of water resources.

Mr. Ian Harvey

The United Kingdom development loans to Jordan are related to a specific programme of agreed projects on which progress can be made in the year for which funds are provided. In the absence of any agreed plan, no funds have been allocated for any project involving the common use of Jordan Waters. Although Her Majesty's Government have made known their support for any practicable plan to facilitate the common use of water resources in the area, this is a matter for the Governments concerned to settle.
