asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs on how many occasions before October, 1956, Her Majesty's Government placed proposals before the United Nations for the formation of an international police force; and what action they have taken since that date to secure that the present United Nations Emergency Force is established on a permanent basis.

As regards the first part of the Question, I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given by my hon. Friend the then Parliamentary Under-Secretary to a Question asked by the hon. Member for Wembley, South(Mr. Russell) on 14th November. This gave a very full account of the efforts made by Her Majesty's Government in this direction.

As regards the second part, I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given by my right hon. and learned Friend to a Question asked by the hon. Member for Govan (Mr. Rankin) on 28th January.
