HC Deb 11 February 1957 vol 564 c123W
58. Mr. Rippon

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what was the external output of broadcasts to Europe by the British Broadcasting Corporation, compared with that of the "Voice of America," the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, and Poland, expressed as programme hours per week, in the latest month for which figures are available.

Mr. Ian Harvey

I am informed that the external output of broadcasts to Europe by the British Broadcasting Corporation was 245 hours 45 minutes per week as at the first week in January, 1957. This compares with an output of 524 hours 30 minutes by the "Voice of America," 359 hours by the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, and 249 hours 30 minutes by Poland, taken for the same period.
