HC Deb 12 December 1957 vol 579 cc147-8W
Mr. Thornton

asked the Minister of Education, in view of the now widely acknowledged status of Russian science and technology, what steps he is taking to encourage the study of the Russian language by science and technical students in universities and higher technological institutes.

Mr. Powell

I have been asked to reply.

The curriculum of university courses is a matter for the universities themselves; but I am informed that Russian is taught at most of the larger universities, and that there are evening classes in Russian at a number of technical colleges, some of which are planning special courses in Russian for students of science and technology.
