HC Deb 02 December 1957 vol 579 c2W
Dr. D. Johnson

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what arrangement he has for notification of accidental poisoning by insecticide amongst agricultural workers and others.

Mr. Godber

The Agriculture (Poisonous Substances) Regulations, 1956, require an employer to notify one of the Ministry's inspectors if there are reasonable grounds for thinking that an employee may be suffering from poisoning from a substance specified in the Regulations or, in certain circumstances, if an employee who has been working with a specified substance is absent from work for more than three days.

My Department and the Department of Agriculture for Scotland have issued advisory leaflets which describe the main symptoms of poisoning by certain substances and stress the importance of medical attention. Employers are recommended to arrange for the regular medical supervision of workers using the more poisonous substances.
