HC Deb 02 December 1957 vol 579 cc2-3W
Mr. Oram

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food the amounts by which each of the sugar-producing countries who are party to the Commonwealth Sugar Agreement, will benefit in 1958 as a result of the increase in the negotiated price.

Mr. Godber

The increase in sales proceeds arising from the higher negotiated price to the sugar-producing countries party to the Commonwealth Sugar Agreement is estimated to be approximately as follows in 1958:

£
British West Indies 1,085,000
British Honduras 15,000
Australia 520,000
Fiji 210,000
Mauritius 580,000
South Africa 250,000

It is not possible to give exact figures as the price varies with the degrees of polarisation. It is also not possible to be certain that each country will export the tonnage allotted to it.
