HC Deb 04 April 1957 vol 568 cc69-70W
Mr. Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether, in the Government's forthcoming proposals to deal with betting, gaming, and lotteries, he will arrange for all bookmakers to be registered and licensed, such licences to cost£500 t on application for renewal, if he will provide that a chartered accountants' certificate shall be supplied to the licensing authority showing the quarterly turnover of bets, from which the licensing authority shall demand, and receive, a 10 per cent. betting tax before renewing such licence; and that no betting advertisement shall be issued or published unless the licence number and office of issue is contained in the advertisement.

Mr. R. A. Butler

These suggestions will be considered along with others which have been made.
