§ Mr. Swinglerasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what inquiries have been made in his Department into the claim made by, and on behalf of, the late Dr. Henry Faulds to have played a decisive part in the development of identification by fingerprints; and with what results.
§ Mr. R. A. ButlerThe claims made on behalf of Dr. Faulds have been examined on numerous occasions since 1910 in the light of the records of Sir William Herschel who began his work in 1859, and the records of New Scotland Yard since 1901, when a system of fingerprint classification was introduced. The inquiries have disclosed no further information in support of the claims of Dr. Faulds.
