Miss Burtonasked the President of the Board of Trade if he will introduce legislation declaring a moratorium on the power of hire-purchase firms to repossess themselves of household goods on which substantial payments have been made where the hirer becomes unemployed after the hiring agreement and produces a certificate from the employment exchange that suitable alternative employment cannot be found.
§ Mr. P. ThorneycroftNo. The Hire Purchase Acts, which apply to virtually all agreements for household goods, already provide that where at least one-third of the hire-purchase price has been paid the owner may not repossess the goods except by action through the courts.
