asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will permit the sale of medicated wines in chemists' or grocers' premises in the City of Carlisle.

If an application were made for my permission—which would be required in addition to the consent of the licensing authorities—I would, in accordance with my usual practice in such matters, consult the local advisory committee before reaching a decision. I cannot say in advance what my attitude would be towards any particular application that might be made.
