Mr. Peyton

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many people have become naturalised British citizens since the war; and how many of these came originally from Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Roumania, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia, respectively.

From 1st January, 1946, to 31st December, 1955, the nearest convenient dates for which figures are available, 75,010 certificates of naturalisation were granted in the United Kingdom to aliens and 22 to British protected persons. The corresponding numbers of certificates granted in British possessions were 8,204 and 3,302. These figures include the following:
