HC Deb 15 February 1956 vol 548 cc259-60W
52. Sir R. Robinson

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what progress is being made with the soil survey in British Guiana; and what assistance is being given by the United States Operations Mission on this project.

Mr. Hare

Since the survey of selected areas in the interior began in September last, 1,200 square miles of the Southern Rupununi District have been surveyed and mapped in detail. The United States International Co-operation Administration are assisting by providing technical staff for soil surveys in the coastal region where, since the end of 1954, a reconnaissance survey has covered 680 square miles and 27,000 acres have been surveyed in detail for reclamation and land settlement purposes.
