HC Deb 09 February 1956 vol 548 c207W
71. Sir R. Robinson

asked the Minister of Labour what success was achieved by the plan sponsored by the Barbados Government and the British Hotels and Restaurants Association whereby some 200 workers from Barbados were brought to this country for jobs in hotels and restaurants during 1955; and to what extent it is proposed to continue or extend this scheme.

Mr. Iain Macleod

This arrangement is between the Barbados Government and the British Hotels and Restaurants Association. I am informed that 95 men and 91 women were recruited in Barbados for posts in 66 hotels in this country during 1955. At the end of the year 65 men and 80 women were still employed in the jobs found for them. I understand that the Association is reviewing the working of the scheme and hopes that it will be possible to continue it.
