HC Deb 02 February 1956 vol 548 cc137-8W
97. Mr. Smithers

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations whether he is aware of the good will which exists in Britain towards the peoples of India, Pakistan and Ceylon, and their Governments; and whether, in view of recent anti-democratic propaganda in Asia, he will review the existing and potential means of giving expression and effect to this feeling and, in due course, make a statement.

Commander Noble

I am well aware of the good will that exists in Britain towards the peoples of India, Pakistan and Ceylon. Indeed our Commonwealth relationship, which is based on fact and historical tradition, finds its expression in deeds and not words. My noble Friend sees no need for a further statement on the subject.
