HC Deb 11 December 1956 vol 562 cc22-3W
14. Mr. Langford-Holt

asked the President of the Board of Trade what percentage of the overseas trade of the United Kingdom in each of the last five years for which figures are available was done with the Commonwealth and Colonies.

Mr. P. Thorneycroft

The following is the answer:

activities are at present being undertaken by Government services in regard to exports from Great Britain to the Union of South Africa.

Mr. P. Thorneycroft

Government services for exporters to the Union are provided by the Export Services Branch and Regional Export Officers of the Board of Trade, by the Export Credits Guarantee Department, by the Trade Commissioner Offices at Pretoria, Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban and by the Overseas Information Services. In addition, we are considering with representatives of industry whether special activities might be undertaken next year in collaboration with the British Manufacturers and Representatives Association in the Union.
