HL Deb 01 August 1956 vol 199 cc557-8WA
VISCOUNT BLEDISLOE

asked Her Majesty's. Government whether they are aware of the forthcoming "World's First Agricultural Aviation Show" to be held in Palmerston North, New Zealand, on November 9 and 10 simultaneously with the Seventh International Grassland Congress and if so whether the United Kingdom Government will be represented at it, and if so by whom.

THE EARL OF HOME

The United Kingdom Government has not received an invitation to be represented at the World's First Agricultural Aviation Show but it is understood that the Society of British Aircraft Constructors and manufacturers likely to be most concerned, have been informed of it. I understand that two manufacturers intend to display their newly developed agricultural aircraft. namely the Auster "Agricola", and the Edgar Percival Company's "P/". As far as I am aware these aircraft will be the first in the world specifically designed for aerial top-dressing, crop-dusting and similar functions.

I should add that the United Kingdom will be participating in the Grassland Congress though so far as is known none

Compulsory Areas Non-Compulsory Areas
First Registrations Dealings First Registrations Dealings
1955 59 days 42 days 75 days 48 days
June, 1956 37 days 33 days 70 days 40 days

The delays are being steadily reduced and it is anticipated that they will have been overcome by the end of this year. Special arrangements to expedite registrations are made if the Registry is informed that hardship or inconvenience might result from delays. However, in of the United Kingdom participants at the Congress have any particular knowledge of the use of aircraft for agricultural purposes. Some at least of them would, however, be fully able to assess the value of the results obtained when certain farming operations are carried out by aircraft. Your Lordships will appreciate that it is, and must remain, primarily for the manufacturers to make arrangements for the display of their products.
