§ 63. Mr. Swinglerasked the Minister of Fuel and Power on what grounds Her Majesty's Government have rejected the arguments used in paragraphs 83 to 86 of the Turner Report.
§ Mr. RentonAs indicated in my right hon. Friend's replies to the hon. Member on 16th April, the Government consider that since subsidence damage is part of the cost of winning coal, that cost should be fully reflected in the price of coal
§ 64. Mr. Swinglerasked the Minister of Fuel and Power on what calculations he bases his estimate that the cost of a comprehensive compensation scheme for mining subsidence damage will be £5 million annually.
§ Mr. RentonThe estimate given has been made in the light of the experience and judgment of the National Coal Board.
§ 65. Mr. Swinglerasked the Minister of Fuel and Power when he expects to be in a position to introduce legislation on compensation for mining subsidence damage.
§ Mr. RentonI cannot add to the statement which my right hon. Friend made in reply to the hon. Member on 16th April.
