HC Deb 23 April 1956 vol 551 cc117-8W
66. Dame Irene Ward

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power, in view of his announcement of summer coal prices, what steps he is taking to ensure that the position is protected for those living on small fixed incomes and old-age pensioners who buy in limited quantities and have no storage accommodation available.

Mr. Renton

The object of the summer price arrangements is to encourage merchants and domestic consumers to build up reserve stocks during the summer months and thus enable the distribution system to meet more readily the winter needs of those who have no storage space. It would not be practicable to make special price arrangements for the benefit of the latter type of consumer.
