HC Deb 24 November 1955 vol 546 c133W
4. Mr. Philips Price

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is the present machinery for ensuring adequate co-operation between the National Agricultural Advisory Service and the various agricultural research institutes under the auspices of the Agricultural Research Council; and whether, with a view to encouraging more effective two-way traffic between the farming community and agricultural research, arrangements can be made to appoint a certain number of the advisory service officers to agricultural research institutes, either on a permanent or temporary basis.

Mr. Amory

There is constant personal contact, secured in a number of ways, between officers of the National Agricultural Advisory Service and the staffs of research institutes. The stationing of advisory officers at such institutes has been examined in the past and adopted in one or two special cases. I do not consider that the present arrangements for securing two way traffic would be made more effective by similar appointments at other institutes, but the matter will be kept under review.
