HC Deb 24 November 1955 vol 546 c144W
94. Mr. Peyton

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how far the agreement to abolish artificial aids to exports has been carried out by members of the Organisation for European Economic Co-operation.

Sir E. Boyle

Under the decision of the Council of the Organisation of last January, member countries are required to discontinue a number of artificial aids to exporters by 31st December, 1955.

Western Germany's currency retention scheme was withdrawn on 31st March, 1954, and the Federal Government have announced their intention not to renew their tax incentive scheme for exports which expires at the end of 1955.

It is expected that the Organisation will shortly be calling for reports from the member countries to show the action they have taken to comply with the decision of 14th January, 1955.
