49. Mr. Idwal Jonesasked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation if he is aware that his refusal to approve the Denbighshire County Council's estimates for expenditure in 1955–56 on the maintenance of their classified roads, will result in the inability of the council to carry out maintenance works essential for the proper upkeep of these roads; and if he will give the reason for such refusal, having regard to the fact that the county council asked only for a small increase in grant to offset the increase in workmen's wages which took place during 1954.
§ Mr. Boyd-CarpenterI regret that owing to the prior claims on the funds available for work on major improvement and new construction it has not been possible to increase this year the allocation to a number of counties, including Denbighshire, of the grant for maintenance and minor works.
