HC Deb 21 March 1955 vol 538 cc154-5W
75. Mr. Fell

asked the Minister of Food what improvements he has been able to make since the beginning of the fatstock guarantee scheme in the facilities for the certification of meat sold on the hook.

Mr. Amory

There are now 360 centres in Great Britain where cattle, sheep and pork pigs can be sold on grade and deadweight and certified for guarantee payments, as compared with 166 in July, 1954. We shall extend the facilities for this type of sale as necessary, but most producers are now able to sell "on the hook," if they wish to do so. There are also 664 deadweight centres and bacon factories, where pig carcases can be certified for the guarantees, compared with 334 last July.
