HC Deb 14 February 1955 vol 537 cc1-2W
23. Mrs. Mann

asked the Minister of Food if he is aware of the: tactics of auctioneers who force up retail prices and take advantage of the guaranteed prices scheme to buy at low prices, and that certain Scottish butchers are advising housewives not to buy butchers' meat for this reason; and if he will take steps to stop this middleman exploitation.

Dr. Hill

My right hon. Friend has received no evidence to suggest that the auction market system is working badly but I will gladly investigate any information that the hon. Lady may be able to provide.
