§ Mr. Lawson
asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what arrangements arc made by Scottish education authorities regarding payment by their employees of superannuation contributions while such employees are undergoing their period of National Service.
§ Mr. Henderson Stewart
Where contributions are payable by a teacher on National Service, the education authority by whom he was employed endeavour to collect them from him while he is away, and, if it is successful, it accounts for them to the Secretary of State. If it is unsuccessful, the amount due, together with interest at the rate of 4 per cent., is recovered by the Secretary of State either by collection from the teacher after his return, or, failing this, by deduction from any benefits that may become payable to him.
