Mr. Vaneasked the Minister of Food what the wheat deficiency payment will be for the period from 1st October to 30th November, 1954; and when it will be paid.
Mr. AmoryThe ascertained average price for about 10½ million cwt. of mill-able wheat despatched on delivery during the second accounting period (1st October to 30th November, 1954) is 19s. 8.7d. per cwt. The standard price for this period is 30s. 4d. per cwt, and the deficiency payment will, therefore, be 10s. 7.3d. per cwt. or £10 12s. 2d. per ton. In addition, approximately 800,000 cwt. of wheat brought up to millable standard after sale will be included in the payment. Some 40,000 growers will share about £6 million, payment of which will start in the week beginning 21st February, 1955.
