asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation when the Government contract was issued for a British instrument landing system; when the system was installed; and what results have been obtained.

Mr. Profumo

A development contract was placed by the Ministry of Supply in August, 1945, followed by a production contract in August, 1946. The system has been installed at eight United Kingdom airports so far, the first being at London Airport in February, 1951. The system is providing a satisfactory service to aircraft, though one component has had to be temporarily replaced with American military equipment.
