§ Mr. Doddsasked the Minister of Food the total subsidy paid this year, up to the latest convenient date, in respect to eggs; and what is his policy in respect of an egg marketing scheme.
Mr. AmoryThe cost of the subsidy on home produced eggs for the six months ended 30th September last was £13.5 million. The present arrangements were designed to leave scope for a producers' marketing board. Discussions with the National Farmers Unions about more permanent arrangements have not yet been completed. I shall make a statement at the earliest possible date.
